Sex education in our high schools often spends quite a bit of
time discussing diseases and pregnancy prevention, but not so much about the
meaning of sexual intimacy. Yet if we truly want to motivate teens to make smart
decisions, don’t we have to help them to understand how too early sex damages
lasting emotional bonding and real intimacy?
The Real Deal on Love, Relationships and Marriage,
three video/DVD series is a valuable new tool
to help educators initiate discussions about healthy relationships, stages of
intimacy, and the documented benefits of marriage.
The REAL DEAL DVD/video series tells the real deal about:
- Healthy vs. unhealthy relationships
- Stages of Attraction and Intimacy
- Marriage– Benefits and Challenges
- The personal story of Real Deal host Yvonne Harvey Williams
- What are warning signs of an abusive relationship?
- Is Living Together a good way to see if someone is marriage material?
- What to look for in a date, or a potential marriage partner!
- Is divorce the only solution to a troubled marriage?
- How to prepare for a marriage that will last a lifetime!
The REAL DEAL has 9 segments on a DVD or three video series for discussion
groups of teens, unmarried singles, as well as couples. Top experts on marriage
and relationships include:
Maggie Gallagher, Pat Love, Michael & Harriet McManus, Steve Stosny, Michelle
Weiner-Davis, Nisa Muhammed, Rozario Slack, Tom & Beverly Rodgers, John Van
Epp. Discussion questions at end of each section are also included in a 5 page
discussion guide.

What a teacher says about showing of “The Real Deal” in a High School Health
Class:
"From the first moment they began viewing the video until we finished 3
lessons later, they were engaged, asking questions and responding to issues raised
as well as being extremely attentive and well behaved. Their interactions were
very thoughtful and I was quite impressed by the seriousness with which they
took in the material, often reflecting on relationships they had seen or been
involved in. They began to see healthier choices and that they had the power
to create more positive outcomes. The material brought up many issues relevant
to their lives and they could feel free to ask questions on how to resolve
issues. I have been told by guidance counselors that students feel more open to
seeking their services, which they believe will help to cut down on much of
the high risk behavior facing their student population."
